Sorry guys! I was on my phone and in a rush to go milk the cows.
When I replaced the cable with a used one I hooked it to the trans first then the speedo.... still bounced. So I undid it from the trans and tried the drill trick, worked good!
So I put the cable back on the trans. Then I had the front diff apart for a day adjusting and regeasing the hubs and bearings.
Today I took I for a drive and it works fine!
I`m thinking it wasn`t seated far enough in the tranny and was slipping...just my guess.
I`m happy though, first time it has ever worked since I had this truck.
