To rebuild your own calipers you are going to need an air compressor, Jet air nozzle with rubber tip, emery cloth, solvent (i.e. carburetor cleaner), brake assembly lube, brake parts cleaner, shop towel, and a small block of wood.
To remove the caliper piston first, place a shop towel in front of the piston to protect it from damage. Second, take a small block of wood, and place it over the caliper brake pad valley opening to protect your self from the caliper piston. Third, take a Jet air nozzle, which is connected to a compressor, and insert the nozzle end into the hole where the brake line screws in, and shoot air into it. Be careful because the piston is going to come shooting out with great force.
To clean and prepare caliper for rebuild first, clean off dirt and deposits from caliper piston bore and piston with solvent. Second, use emery cloth, with a little solvent, to polish caliper piston and piston bore smooth. Third, Clean off caliper piston and piston bore with brake parts cleaner making sure they are clean of all dirt's and solvents.
To assemble caliper first, install the caliper rebuild kit's rubber seal around caliper piston. Second, apply brake assembly lube on piston and seal. Third, insert caliper piston into caliper piston bore. Fourth, install caliper rebuild kit's piston boot seal.
Note: Make sure your hands are clean for the reassembly of the caliper, or the dirt and solvents from your hands will contaminate the caliper.
Note: The caliper's piston and piston bore are a tight fit, so make sure the piston does not get cocked off side when installing. When the piston is going in straight, there should be no more pressure needed than your own hands. "Do not try to install it with a hammer."
