Do controllers typically die completely or start dropping circuits?

I have a 13 yr old Prodigy with no trailer brake signal. Trying to decide if I should trouble shoot further or if it’s common I’ll just buy a new controller ($100).

The newer ones are more complicated and may crap out

If you have 12v coming in, and the ground is working, check the trailer, plug, and battery

My issue is that I have no brake signal in the plug on the truck, this is why I’m trying to figure out if it the controller or truck wiring.

I’ve never have a controller prior to this one so I don’t know their failure symptoms.

I’d pull the pig tail out of the bumper, and inspect everything, pull the plug apart and everything

Have a volt meter or test light?

Both. I’ll spend some more time on it tomorrow.

I have a controller and pigtail for your truck if you need it, controller isnt fancy but worked good in my old truck. Let me know if you need it.

Heck yeah, do you know the brand? Maybe it would plug up to my pigtail?

Saweet! Yeah, I'll be home from about 5:00 on. THANKS!

Not saying they don't fail. But first place I'd check is where the wires go into the plug receptacle. It's in a prime spot for corrosion.
