Does anyone know where the brake controller harness is on an 05 avalanche?
Also is the 12v supply already fitted with a breaker?
Thanks

They are built in. You will need a brake controller and a vehicle specific plug in for your avy. They are underneath the steering column up on the firewall. There are also 2 empty mounting holes for your controller at the bottom of the dash under the column. Or you can be cool and route it into the empty slot in the center console next to the cig. lighter.

Hi and thanks very much for the reply.
I have the brake controller already, I have a prodigy.
I have actually installed several over the years and sometimes depending on the truck have to end up running from scratch because I can`t find the harness, I hate that....lol
I was just going to cut the plug off and wire it direct to the controller but finding the harness is the fun part.
Any clue as to the color of the plug I should be looking for?
Thanks

If you look under the dashboard, you will see a black box with a plastic nut in the center that holds the cover on. Take the cover off and to the top, second from the left is the plug in. The one I have is a brown plug in, from factory they are empty.

Those are the vehicle specific harnesses from Rigid Hitch, if the terminal that goes into your controller doesn't match, just cut it off and solder them together.

Oh okay so its actually held in a block as opposed to it just being coiled up and tie wrapped?
Okay, is there enough length on the wires to get in ans strip them to connect them to the controller?
Also is the heavy blue wire with them at that point?
Thanks again.

Gotcha, I have the truck here and popped the cover off and sure enough, there it is...........man, thats easy...........thanks. I will just plug er in, use a test light to see whats what and go nuts, thanks again.

I think you should be OK on an 05, but my 07 Sierra Classic had that connector, but only had 2 of the wires actually run to it. According to my research, some of the GM vehicles had the connector ready to plug into, some had to have one or two wires connected under the hood, some didn't use the connector, but had the wires ready to hook up, and evidently at least one was like mine.

Hi, once i plugged in the harness I had 12 volt to the black, the white served as a ground, the red was live when the brake pedal was depressed and well the blue goes to blue so yeah, this once was live and ready to go.
You are right that on the newer units you do have to connect the power wire to a feed near the master cylinder to activate and those nwer units are not plug and play, the wires are coiled up under the dash if I am not mistaken.
Thanks for the tip, much appreciated it.
Its all installed and the N.C. light is lit when manually pulled over with no trailer connected so we be good.
Thanks
Roger
