Brake fluid reservoir, can you take it off???????safelly

The reservoir on my truck is broken, i have the lid on using zip ties, soo i have a nother master cylinder i took off another truck can i take the reservoir off safelly and replace it???

Trying to avoid spending $70-80 for a "new" one and i have to do it quick got a trip on sunday

I would imagine you'd get air in the lines, so you'll be bleeding the brakes.

I've never tried to remove a reservoir -- most of my trucks have had the one piece cast master/reservoirs -- and since you gotta bleed anyway, may as well swap the whole master assembly.

The plastic resreivor comes off. In fact, most of the replacement master cylinders I've bought didn't include a resrevior. Just pry the old one off and push the new one onto the master.
