whats up guys. i recently got my first k5 its a 1990 model. its been having some electrical issues. one im dealing with now i cant seem to find any info on. the parking brake light came on when i set the p brake. when i released it the light stayed on. figured the switch was going out. couple days ago the light starts flashing. flashes 13 times stays on for a min then starts over. its snowing like crazy here. i just went to run to the store and my brakes are all spongy and barely there. what do ya think?

Park it don't drive it until you fix the brakes. Bad master cylinder would be my first guess, unless the MC went low and air got in the lines.

Are you able to pump the brakes up and does the peddle hold?

The brake light will come on because ...

1. The parking brake lever switch is closed (on the lever.)

2. There's a pressure imbalance between the front and rear brake circuits; this will generally mean a leak in the brake system, which is bad juju. As mentioned, it's unsafe, fix it now.

3. On 1990-91 trucks, there's a limited ABS system which only functions in 2WD High. It will blink the light when it's huffy about something. Those 13 blinks are probably of different lengths, like four long ones and then nine short ones, or whatever, which for example would be code 49.

I'd bet, though, that your error code is that there's a hydraulic leak, so you're looking at master cylinder, brake lines, or caliper/wheel cylinder.

Well. I've looked at the truck a little but with the 15 inches of snow the last day and a half it been hard. I can't get my car out of the garage to get the jimmy in. But I can't see and hyd leaks from the master or the front brakes. The rear is covered in snow. My fluid levels havnt changed. I would figure if I had a leak I'd be loosing fluid? Hope this snow starts melting so I can get a look at this
