Both My brake lights went out two days ago and it doesnt seem to be a problem with the bulbs. I was wondering if anyone knew the cause of this problem or how to fix it. Any suggestions would be a big help. Thanks

Switch at the pedal? Have you hooked up a test light and seen if the bulbs are getting power? Also check the grounds at the tail housing, notorious for being part of the problem...

Have you checked for good power and ground? Check fuse? Check the brake light switch attached to the brake pedal? My 84 K5 had a loose connection at the firewall where the fuse block is mounted. There is a group of wires that came through the fuse clock and went to the rear lights.

Didn't mention what make, model or year, but if it uses the brake lights for the turn signals, check to see if the turn signals work.

If they do, then everything from the dash back is good.

So then you need to check the brake light switch as mentioned.

Since the brake lights on those models run through the turn signal, it could be bad also, but the brake switch is more likely.

Also give any trailer wiring the evil eye, often butchered harnesses from trailer wiring being added by hacks lead to corrosion and light problems!..even properly installed wiring can eventually corrode or rub against something,etc......................................................................................usually if the directional switch is at fault, only one brake light fails to work--you might be able to test for that by applying the brakes and pulling gently on the directional lever back and forth, while watching to see if the brake lights come on ,usually you can get them to flash if the contacts in the switch are had..
