Picked up a 76 c10 and can't get my brake lights to work. They will come on and stay on all the time if my running lights or headlights are on. Any ideas?
The wiring from the cab back seems to be original. Under the dash may be a different story. I've looked for a bad ground, and checked all the fuses as well. The truck had been sitting for about 18/19 years. I've got all the inspection receipts from when it was new and the last one failed due to non-functioning brake lights.
I have found this is usually a problem in the turn signal switch. Your running light circuit goes thru the switch because of the front turn signal/side marker lights. You might try turning on the park lights and jiggle your turn signal lever while someone is watching the brake lights. If they flicker or go off completely you might need a new turn signal switch or repair the one you have.
