I have a stripped fitting on my front brake line, on the passenger side, where it connects to the braded line to the caliper.

Can I just cut off the flare, install a new fitting and then reflare the line with a flaring tool, or should I just make a new line?

Can this be done with the line in the truck or should I take it out?
I hope I can do it in the truck, it looks like it will be a pain to get it out of the frame.

If the line isn't rusted and you have enough extra length, then you can flare it in the truck. It's a pain in the ass but it's possible. Just be sure to put a double flare on it and not just a single flare.

If it IS rusted, then it's probably going to break at the next place back where it's held to the frame, so you might as well replace the whole thing (and re-route it where it's easier to access). :(

Ditto on the above.

Do you know how to double flare? Reqiures a special flare tool.

If you don't know do a search for technique, acquire the tool, and practice on some copper tubing first. ;)

I called the auto parts store. They have the flare tool with the double flare insert. I will be picking it up today.
