Yesterday I converted my '75 K10 to hydroboost from a '79 C30. the master cylinder from the C30 had the LARGER brake line to the front and the smaller on to the rear. The '75 was just the opposite-small up front larger in rear. I looked at both proportion valves and they seem to be identicle. Anybody have any pics of the RIGHT way to hook up the brake lines? Thanks

Ack... trying to remember this, I went through this.

The small line goes to the larger reservoir, so IIRC that's the rear brakes, the drums (take more fluid than disc.)

The larger line goes to the smaller reservoir on the master, so that should be the fronts.

I've seen masters with the front brake output in the back, and I've seen them with the same output in the front. You'd think the front brakes would always go closest to the booster, but this is not the case.

SOOO, I *think* you just hook the lines up wherever they fit and it'll be correct for your master -- I assume this is why GM 'keyed' the lines this way. It'll take some fiddling with the lines, but it's doable. GM left us those nice coils in the factory ones for some flexibility.

Worst case you can trace the lines to the combo (prop) valve ... IIRC there are three right together, which are the fronts, and then a separate pair, which is the rear. Trace the front one up, and it wants go to whichever port on the master has the smaller reservoir.

Hopefully that all makes sense; if not, post a pic of your master and I'll go look at my trucks and give forth my expert prognostication :haha: )

I just looked at the old mc and the larger line goes to the smaller resevoir, which is in the back on vac brakes. On the hydroboost it is just the opposite, smaller resevoir in the front larger in the back,so thats how i routed the lines. Dont know if I can post pics but I'll try. Thanks

The larger resevoir is for the front brakes, When the pads wear, the caliper piston is out further, and needs the more fluid so you don't run dry. The rear wheel cylinders don't get pushed out as much, and don't need as much fluid. And IIRC, the larger line is the front brakes.

I traced the smaller lines on the dually and they go to the front brakes, sae with the 4x4. The smaller line went to the large res and the larger line went to the small res. and that is the way they fit the m/c???
Now I am confused. From the prop valve the larger line goes to the rear of the truck(both trucks) smaller ones split to the front.

Anyone have pics of their setup? Thanks

makes sense, I wasn't sure about the larger being the front, but I am positive that the larger resevoir is for the front brakes.

Hookem up the way they fit, 1/2 ton MC's were front is front back is back, 3/4 and one tone are front is back and back is front. I went through the same thing many years ago, i was looking for adapters and the whole nine yards, then when i stopped to read the manual it explained what i just said.

Finished it last night and WOW what a difference! I just barely touch the pedal and I am stopping! Thanks for all the info.
