Brake problem?

and on a second note if it takes me 12 hours to swap out this booster, imma go crazy :eek1:

Double that estimate and add two hours. This applies to every repair.

I usually double the number and add the next largest increment of time.

5 hours = 10 days.

Restoration estimated at 3 months = 6 years. :haha:

Seems to work for my projects anyway.

Hey i just signed up last night to this forum. There's some awesome info here and it looks like there's a lot of great folks as well. I just replaced pretty much my entire brake system on my 72. One thing i did was use a 1 ton booster and M/C from a 72 truck instead of the stock booster M/C combo. It's about 50% larger, has better braking force and the best thing is its a direct bolt on replacement! the only thing you need to know is that the reservoirs are backwards...(ex. front reservoir goes to the back brakes and the rear goes to the front brakes). cost wise, its only like 15-20 bucks more than than the stock booster. I noticed a big increase in stopping power. its probably the cheapest and best option for a better booster.:thumb: Here's a pic of how mine is set up!

Well it looks like I defied the truck repair time estimate gods!:eek1: I changed out the MC and booster in only about an hour n' change, it was a nice simple smooth swap. Changed out the brake lines too, that was quite a bit more of a hassle. Thanks for the advice and tips everyone.

You replaced the master, booster, the hardlines, and bled the entire system in under 2 hours? Is there a suspicious smiley icon I can use here? :)

Lol, no, read it again; "I changed out the MC and booster in only about an hour n' change"

"Changed out the brake lines too, that was quite a bit more of a hassle."

Separate tasks my friend, separate tasks. I did the brake lines first, and it probably took longer getting the old fittings and lines apart/putting the new lines in than it did changing the booster/mc and bleeding.

I only said the hour and change in regards to the booster/mc because that was the original question I had asked on a time frame. I decided to just go ahead and replace the lines as well after asking the question.

...and how does the pedal feel now?

Feels like a brake pedal should rather than a kitchen sponge! Its a million times better, havent got to field test it yet since i put a hole in my radiator when i was putting my front clip back on, but i anticipate with the new rear cylinders, shoes, brake lines, mc and booster, it should make a world of difference

So the "double the estimate and add some extra" turns out to be accurate. Hurry you now only have 5 days to replace the radiator!
