whenever I start off driving my brakes are kinda soft but after i drive for a while they get stiffer and stiffer. it acts like the pressure is not being let off of the brakes while i drive. ive replaced the master cylinder because it has done it before and that cured it but this time it didnt. ive also bled the lines and am sure that there is no air in them. what else could be causing this problem? could it be the calipers or the proportioning valve?

that makes sense cause after you shut it off and then start it back the brakes go back to normal for a while.

Is it fixable or do I have to get a new one? sorry for the dumb question but I know nothing about those.

How old are the brake hoses? High pressure could be forcing its way to the brakes, but releasing slowly. If they are really flexable, probably not the problem, but if they are stiff and brittle or showing signs of cracking, replace.

A bad brake booster should be bad the entire time and not just after driving for a while, wouldn't it? I just replaced mine. The pedal was stiff each and everytime it was pressed.

The brake booster is not servicable. 8 nuts and a clip to remove it.

1 clip under the dash at the brake pedal.
2 nuts remove the master cylinder from the booster
6 at the firewall to remove the brake booster

+ 1 cat to kick when this "easy" job takes all focking day!!!
 
The brakes only work like they should right when I start off driving, after a few minutes they get bad and continue to get worse.
How much does a new booster cost, Im pretty low on funds after swapping axles and new tires.
And the brake hoses and most of the steel lines are less than a year old.

Free play??

If there isn't a slight amount of "free play" in the pedal,it could be the pushrod that operates the master cylinder in the power brake booster needs to be adjusted ,or shortened...brake fluid expands when it heats up,and a slight amount of play between the push rod and the piston in the master is needed,or the brakes will self-apply as they get hot!..a VW Beetle I had drove me batty until I figured it out!..there should be about 1/8-1/4 "of free play before the pushrod actually touches the master cylinder piston..:crazy:
 
Im not real sure about the free play but I dont think that there is any. Ill have to check that when I go home friday.
