Brake Problems

hello,

my Chevrolet C/K Pickup brake pedal is too low. it also have a grinding sound. need to diagnose this asap and will be needing your help guys.

what could be the problem?

You need to do a visual inspection. Jack it up and take the wheel off. Tell us what you see. Better yet take a pic

Sorry guys but I'm not that expert in technical or mechanical stuffs of a car... I'm also consulting a mechanic for this just to make sure everything is fine.

If the pedal is low, but firm, check the adjustment of the rear brakes (drums). If it's low and mushy, you still have air in the system somewhere.

The grinding noise could be the dust shield behind the rotor making contact with the rotor (since it looks like you just changed them). Or you may have installed a pad backwards with the steel side facing the rotor.

looks like to me there are back wards. You can see the metal ear against the rotor.

so the mechanic's assessment was a worn brake pad and needed to replace asap soon as possible. and next time, there should be a regular brake inspection to avoid this to happen next time.

I have been contacting some auto parts warehouse stores, ebay, jc whit, car id etc....(i'm very industrious in calling them) and found out that they almost have the same product quality and price ranges for their brake pads.

i would just like now to ask from you guys your experience if you have purchased your products from any of these.. thanks

I've ordered all my brake stuff from rockauto for years now. Going in and checking all the specs myself, had better luck than trusting the parts store desk guys to get it right. prices are good, shipping is fairly cheap even to north of the border.

I buy top tier quality parts at the auto parts stores with lifetime warranties. They wear out, you get new ones for free.

I would suggest someone like MIDAS, or a local independent shop to give you an estimate and do the brakes for you. Some tire shops also do brakes.

I was able to contact MIDAS in their 2424 South Figueroa Street. LA (nearest from home) branch and auto parts warehouse store.....

they have the cheapest rate from the rest but I prefer MIDAS because the customer service reps are very nice and really know what they are doin
