I have an 81 k10 sub. It has a 10blt front and a swaped in 14blt rear. I am going to be puting on a disc kit in the rear and I have a couple questions. Is an adjustable prop valve always needed or should I put the kit on and see how it does with out one first? Second what is the advantage, if any, to switching the brake system to a hydroboost setup? THANKS for any help

is this going to be an on road truck? i say put it together and drive it some. is seems every truck is different. if you have too much pressure to the rear brakes, like they lock up too soon, then you will need the valve to lessen the pressure. i have no idea about hydroboost.

as far as hydro boost a plus is that you don't have to worry about what cam you run since you don't need vacuum for your brakes a down side is if your engine dies/stalls whatever your brakes get real hard real fast and hopefully no one is at a dead stop real close in front of you since you will almost need to double foot the brakes anyways and you really need to watch your power steering fluid level. personally I like hydro boost (already had it on my truck since it was a diesel originally) but now when driving something that has vac boost brakes it feels weird to drive at least to me

Thanks for the answers guys. Hey 83Shortbed what do you mean it feels weird? Like the the other is weeker than hydroboost? And my main reason for looking into hydroboost setup (as well as anything else I do) is functional. 1 does it perform better and 2 is it "tuff" will it last.

Any HB after the first gens should have an anodized cylinder on it. That is an accumulator. It's there to see that you get one stop with a dead engine. Note that as long as you don't totally release the pedal that you can increase or decrease the pedal effort for quite a while.

what I ment by it feels weird is the pedal feels harder at lest to me with hydroboost so when I drive my works van to take people home/pick them up it feels weird to have a softer pedal since my truck is my dd. as far as better or worse Im not sure its just different. as far as being tough concider most diesels or engines with little vacuum run hydroboost (ie my bro in law has a 98 2500 hd Silverado with a 454 and his truck also runs hydroboost) tho some have a seperate vacuum pump just for the vacuum booster. so when/if you switch your pedal will probably feel harder then you remember due to having changed how your booster works.
