Can't post anywhere else yet so I'm putting it in here. Just got a 1990 k5 and found out on the drive home I have no lights in the rear (turn signals, brake, tail, or back up). Checked the bulbs and all is ok. Tested the sockets and they are not getting any power.

I did hook it up to a trailer and got the passenger side turn signal and brakes to work on the trailer. So I'm pretty sure it has to be a short or something where the trailer wiring is wired into the truck.

I ran out of light, and motivation, so I'll be getting back to it in the morning. Any thoughts or tips on what could be wrong?

I had some problems with the splice job on the back of my 72. Turn the lights on, get under the rear bumper and wiggle the wires. If they come on thats your problem.

I have had to cut out a alot of the factory wiring and put new wires in. This was all on older trucks. I just used the 4 wire trailer wire, as I remember the color even matched up.

Yeah, pretty common...

The sockets could be wore out as well...

Very common for there to be splice connectors under the truck connecting the trailer wires up. The problem is that they tend to cut through the wires eventually, leaving you with no tail lights. I rewired the whole tail end of my Blazer for this reason alone, well and the fact that I wanted the wiring inside the Blazer.
