I searched, but not much recent. The brakes on my 92 are getting kinda sad, and i figured they probably need a flush and bleed. I was thinking about possibly upgrading the front brakes too. Its disc front, drum rear, and it does have 4 wheel ABS, which is working fine. Are there any basic upgrade kits for the fronts? Or would I be better off doing a disc conversion on the rear? I've seen on this list to stay away from ceramic pads, but i was wondering if there was a bigger disc hub and some better pads i could put on the front without messing up the ABS. I have 16" wheels, so I have some room to play with. No i DONT wanna go radical and drop $1k+ on a fancy 4 piston setup. Just some more stopping power, as i haul a horse trailer around with this truck. Any suggestions? Thanks!

brakes on the trailer already? if not thats where I would start. You have any pics of your combo? I'm looking for a bumper pull for mine too. just curious:popcorn:

No pictures. Its an 87 Merhow, and yes it has brakes. Its a 2 horse bumper pull. XT-XW. But the brakes on the blazer and definitely in need of some work.

Try EBC Brakes rotors and their Yellow brake pads.....it is unbelievable how much difference those make over stock ones

Little bit more involved but a SF 14b should bolt in and can be found in 6 lug, the brakes on those are HUGE compared to a 10 bolts

EBC brake pads/rotor

I looked up the EBC stuff (not really wanting to put a new rear under this) Wow - kinda pricey. From Summit $322 for pads and rotors. Are they that much better than say the slotted and drilled pads + metallic pads from say Autozone? Which I can pickup for around $200? I don't mind spending some extra money if its worth it, Like to hear from folks who are running these. EBC seems to be a european based company. Of course, it appears duralast, and a lot of parts at local parts stores are made in china....ugh.

Hmm - power stop does appear to be made in USA. Anyone got any experience with those?

I had their cryo rotors on one of my trucks before.....great for stop and go in city. for best stopping power, stick with slotted rotors. Skip drilled, drilled and slotted, slot and dimple as these reduce surface area greatly. had them with EBC green stuff pads - didn't tow anything and those pads are very low dust and long life.....

Biggest comment is have it professionally bled, by someone who specializes in these chevy's

Without a professional level scan tool, you can not properly bleed the ABS system on that truck.

A lot of shops will say they do that, and won't .

Find a good local shop, talk to the guys, and only get it done somewhere you feel comfortable.

Not saying get it all done professionally, just a good quality bleed once you do hte rest of the work.

Good luck!

I do have a good shop. I kinda figured with the ABS, it might need a professional. I think thats part of the problem right now, is that it does need a good flush. I was just thinking i'd like to put some bigger rotors and pads on it, if that was an option. The EBC's look good, the Powerstop's look good. They are all standard sized rotors though. I wonder what I can fit under the 16" wheels, and make work.

Going bigger rotors is where you'll spend a LOT of money, cause the calipers will change too.

Really, if i were you, i'd get some good (soft) pads, new calipers, new rotors, rear shoes, cylinders, etc.

When new, in working order, and in good condition, the stock brakes work pretty well. Next, the 6 lug 14sf swap would be a good way to go. You'll stop harder with those giant drums than you will with a lot of hte brake upgrades.
