Which wire should I tie into for the brake wire for a trailer brake controller? I checked the wires and found a yellow wire that was coming out of the stoplight switch and tested it and it gets power when the brake is depressed. I hooked the controller up to that wire and it does actuate when I depress the brake but it also actuates when I turn on the left blinker. Does anyone know what color wire I should be hooked up to?

Thanks

In my 80 it is a White wire that runs from the brake light switch to the turn signal switch. Whatever color it is, it will run directly from the brake light switch to the turn signal switch, that is the easiest way to locate the correct wire.

you should be hooking the brake controler to the brake light switch under the dash it is on the brake peldal the acuater the run the heavier wire back to the plug shoud be at least 12 gague to the plug . and remeber you should put a circut breaker in and not a fuse in the power sorce

After reading this again, the OP is hooking to a wire coming out of the turn signal switch, not the brake light switch.
