Well I'm starting to piece together my lift... the only thing I need to figure out is the brakes.

I read that brake lines for an 88+ K1500 will bolt up and be long enough for 4" of lift, but I wasn't sure if that is exclusive to half ton calipers(this will be on my V2500).

The other thing I was wondering is what people have done on for the rear brake line.. might have to cough up and order an SS one.

Also, do I need to worry about the e-brake cable?

I'm not buying a kit.. ended up decided to piece it all together since I'll be picking up some Rancho springs for cheap($75).

My lift will be:

  • Rancho 4" Springs $75
  • Superlift Steering Arm off e-ghey for $60 shipped, brand new with hardware
  • ORD 2.5" shackle flip, DIY4X 6" shackle. Got DIY4X ez inches to level it out if need be
  • Whatever shocks I can score for cheap for now

Now for 4" will I have to worry about contact between the y-pipe and the front driveshaft?

The calipers are the same between 2 and 4 wheel drive and 1/2 and 3/4 ton, so the lines should work fine.

When I lifted my 77 K20 4", I just unbolted the T on the rear diff and made a 4" spacer to raise it up some. I had enough hard line where I was able do this. Not the best way to do it, but it fit my budget just fine.

Not sure on the E-brake cable, since none off them have ever worked on any of the trucks I've lifted. But I'm guessing that you will need to readjust it.

Unless your y-pipe runs under the driveshaft, you shouldn't have any problems with it being close.

I haven't had to mess with any E brake cables on any lifts I have done.
Got 9 inches in the rear of mine right now and didn't have to do anything, and mine works too.

That's great to know. Your truck should have the same setup as mine for brake cables..

The 88+ front lines will be fine for a 4" lift. I run them with 52's up front and the hard line moved below the frame. They are a litle short for the 52's but you'll have plenty for 4" springs.

I did the same in the rear. I actually dropped my hard line from below the body with a little bracket I built.

Did you use stock lines dropped in the rear or did you use something else?

I used a line from the part number thread not sure which one. It was the same length as a 4" lift line

Bump in case anyone can remember what rubber lines they used in the rear.. might just have to go bug the guys at Napa

Got my front springs almost ready... I was told they were Rancho but I figure I'd ask and see what you guys thought.

The only markings I could find were "Made in Brazil" on the big spring eye and 40054 painted on the top of the main leaf. Here's some pics:

I'm fairly sure they are.. I got some Energy Suspension spring bushings from thatk30guy that were for any front lift spring except for Skyjacker or Superlift.. they fit snug as a glove in these.

Who makes blue urethane bushings? I went to energy suspensions site and they show only red and black.

Energy Suspension is who made them.. no idea if they are a one off or anything like that, thatk30guy might know(bought them from him).

The blue is kinda cute, isn't it?:haha::haha::crazy:

So the 88+ brake ok we use the same fittings as a k5? I need so e brake lines so this would be perfect

I had to modify my e-brake brackets and installed new e-brake cables:

The rear cables for a 125 inch wheel base van is
RAYBESTOS Part # BC92465 {46" Overall Length}

and the rear cables for the 110 inch wheel base is
RAYBESTOS Part # BC92918 {47 1/4" Overall Length}

BTW the stock cables for a 72 Blazer are 40 1/2 inch overall length.
I'm going to purchase them tomorrow and let you all know for sure that they work. From the images of the cable the ends on all 3 are the same.

There is no way a stock e-brake cable will work with a major lift without modification of some sort. I put on a 4" lift and disc brakes. The stock e-brake cables were stretched tight before any suspension drop.

I wonder if the suburbans have more to work with than the K5's? GNERGY and I both have 'burbs.. I'm going to have to crawl under mine and look. I'm fairly certain their wheel base is over 125" so the van ones would probably be too short. Probably worth measuring to see.

Your wheelbase will be accounted for in the section before the e-brake cables themselves (Intercable - Item #2 on the diagram) . According to LMC, the e-brake cables are the same for the K5 and Suburbans.

I am referring to part 34-3864 (item #3 on the diagram)

some shocks off a superduty could save you some $$$

just post on craigslist, you should be able to find some from someone that upgraded or lifted one

Looks like the older style brake cables..

Mines the setup for the 84-91's that hangs down under the frame rail(the second diagram on that page).

Either way doesn't look that hard to get it working.
