ok i have a 89 bonneville that my uncle(mechanic) has and he told me the wheel cylinders are bad on the back.the pass. side rear is leaking bad. today i got in the car(28* outside) and drove down my street, pedel went to floor. i pumped the brakes and it still happend. i check fluid it was low so i filled it up about 2 minutes ago, still goes to the floor. i need to get it about 5 miles to my uncles garage tommrow and i dont know how to get it there without towing it. its real scary knowing you dont have any braking power. what should i do? help me guys(dont have any money for tow)

Your master cylinder should have 2 chambers/2 lines/2 seperate systems basically as a safety which seperates things in the event you loose one end. One for the front calipers the other for the rears. Unless the master is bad you should be able to maintain front brakes unless theres air in the system at which point bleeding the calipers should fix it. BTW stupid as it is I drove a suburban for weeks with the rear line cut in half and hardly noticed any difference as the fronts do 70% of the stopping.
Be aware though if you end up bleeding the rears also and get brakes going temporarily since drums and shoes are contaminated and you said its 28 theres a good chance the contaminated rear if dirty and gooey enough will lock up from the fluid acting like glue.

ok this got me home when i lost a the rear line on my dodge a while ago. you said it is just one wheel cylinder leaking badly , right. what you can do is try to crimp the line shut using a pair of vise grips, you will have to repair the line, but if you can crimp it shut you will stop most of the fluid and a few miles will be do-able. on my dodge the rear line had a rust spot near the back and it blew about 35 miles from home. i used a small pair of vise grips, found a easy section of line to get to and crimped it shut, i left the vise grips on there for the ride home, i lost some fluid but had enough (pedal) to make it home and the replaced the line.

that sounds like a great idea i may go try that tonite. i just hope my master isnt bad because i have no money im freakin out, i just did my front brakes so hopefully its just the rear. i will have to go out and put my parking brake on and see where all the fluid is coming out at hold on.

forgot to say, if its rubber hose going to the wheel cylinders, use something like two washers, or something flat and smooth, so you dont cut into the line with the vise grip teeth.

ok i just went outside and there is still fluid in the resevoir. i pumped the brakes witht eh car on/off and it went to the floor eith it on and did not with it off. usually if i leave the parking brake on overnight it leake fluid like a 15yr old girl. i checked the rear drums wwith the wheels on because its freezing outside and i dont feel like taking the wheels off. so i will wait a few hours and see where its leaking. i just dont understand why its going to the floor with fluid in the resevoir and its not leaking out anywhere

fluid level got too low and there is now air in the lines somewhere. when the car is running the power brakes are giving you more pressure then with the car off so that is why the difference.

UPDATE. since its11pm here in KENTUCKY yeehaaa my friend is gonna run blocker for me wheil i drive to my uncles garage. we have mapped out a way to go with barely if any cars. we will be on speaker phone with eachother and he will be infront of me incase i cant stop in time. so this will be awesome. operation bad bonnie brakes is undergo in tminus 20minutes. i will bring a video camera with me for fun and tape it to my dash board for fun and memmories wish me luck brotheren

been there done that, if you have and old tire with out a rim, you can attach it to the back of your budies ride to cushion any possible impacts. good luck and keep it dick ceptik side down (sorry i had to) :D:D
