I swapped in a new/used frontend for a buddy & the calipers are stuck & rotors are rusty. We were thinking it would be nice to take his good hub/rotors, calipers, & pads & put them on. The old frontend was a 3/4t D44, the new one is a 10b 3/4t. Anyone know if these interchange?

Yes, with the possibility that the brake lines will differ. IIRC the 10b's are 10mm, and at least SOME D44's are 3/8".

Other than that connection, however, everything you mentioned will interchange.

I feel honored when someone with over 8000 posts replys to my posts... :D

That will be perfect then, I'll be using the calipers that came off the old frontend so the fittings will definetly be the same(guess I shouldn't have taken them loose, saved myself alot of pedel pumpin'....lol)

Thanks a million!

you just have to swap out everything from the knuckle out.depending on year of truck, there were two different style spindles and hub.big bearing 10 bolt.little bearing dana 44 pre 78 i believe was the changeover.

Ahhhh, so I'll have to change the spindle & all.....hmmmm. Maybe I'll just have him get the rotors turned & reuse the old(d44) calipers & pads. That should work, right?

Thanks- John

Dammit, forgot about the spindle size thing.

The *rotors* should be interchangeable, and I know the calipers are as outlined above. You might need to press the studs out and reuse the existing hubs/bearings.

Or yeah, you could swap everything from the spindles out, but that's work. Hell, you go down that far you can yank the half shafts, clean everything, do the balljoints... :D

Oh, and w.r.t. the post count, thanks. Having been there, done that, I know a few things about 10B / D44 brake swaps, so I figger if I can help the next guy save some time, it's all good. There's a bunch of stuff I don't know about, and should you become a paying member, you'll find the off-topic forum, The Lounge, has a certain number of posts from yours truly about absolutely nothing at all. :D

yep backing plate, caliper and rotor are the same size, just the hub and bearing was different.depending on the year of 44 you got,it will have the smaller ujoint and necked down smaller axleshafts as well.i believe the ujoint was a 297x.same as used in jeeps.so not really up to the task of big tires.i havent broke mine yet but it is on its way out.i forget when the axleshafts changed in the 44,but the 10 bolt should have the better shafts.but wont interchange on the innerside of the axle.all 1/2 and 3/4 outers are the same i believe.thats why the whole knuckle assymbly will interchange.not that much work t interchange the outer hub assymbly.at least then you ca repack and check the bearings while you are in there.just swap all the outer portion from the spindles out and if all that was good on the old axle you should be alright.should take about half hour per side to swap it out.may have to get new soft brake lines to acommodate the banjo bolt to the calipers.the lines dont swap out.
