I have recently noticed that the brakes on my '88 Jimmy are touchy at first start up. They almost lock-up when manuvering out of a parking spot but seem to get normal by the time I come to the stop sign down the street. Any thoughts on what could be happening? Low miles on brakes both front and back but has been about 5 years since that work was done.
Thanks!

rear. pull apart clean all the dust/junk out good. take some sand paper and scuff up the shoes. then make sure there is no major glazing of the drums if so scuff up good with sand paper.

then adjust them up so the drum just slides on and off. and go test them. comon gm drum brake problem.

I agree... also leaky wheel cylinders can cause that complaint by softening up the shoes, so the first stop is very grabby.

Its time to pull the drums.:D

My truck does the same thing... when I first fire it up on a cool morning the first time or two I hit the brakes it'll just about lock 'em up....
But just like you said it only takes that first stop and then they're perfectly fine...
