sup guys just thought id share this with yall. i just picked up a new 10,000 lb champion winch from sams club for 250 bucks. it came with the receiver hitch mount cradle, snatch block, and the quick connects and 4guage wire for the front and rear. im not a big fan of champion but brand new for 250 bucks i couldnt turn it down. from my understanding the manager said they where discontinued and no longer available i bought the last 1 from the douglasville sams, it was a display. maybe the same thing is going on else where?? i dunno

im going wheelin this weekend and i plan on "using" it and see what happens lol ill def report back on how it performs. yea i did a little bit of research and ive been hearing the same thing, that the harbor freight and smittybuilt winches and champion are made by the same folks. but i dont know how accurate that is though.

I've heard alot of bad from the Champion winches. Very slow, motor overheating and burning up. How reliable is a $250 winch really going to be?

Went out a couple years ago with two jeep buddies and my blazer.. My blazer would not engage the clutch. One of them had a bran new shiny winch from costco.

It was slowww, but it pulled me from a very icy, sand filled muddy grave.

Would I buy one? Maybe for something I would see light use with or a trailer. Buy a used warn m8000 or better if you can.

yea ive heard that too but i could careless how fast or slow it pulls just as long as it pulls me out :D
oh and the winch is regularly 400 i got it for 250 because it was discontinued and a display.
X2 on the offroad tow bill lol these dudes around here will break it off in you for a offroad recovery.

yea i would love to have a warn or even a ramesy but even the "used only once" 1's in my area are a little outa my budget right now. i missed the deal of a lifetime on craigslist awhile back dude had a 12000 pound warn or ramsey i dont remember for 500 :doah:

I have a friend with a 10K Champ, seems to like it ok. He had it on a TJ up in Alaska. Are the smittybuilt's any good? I'm guessing no? ive got an REP 8K Ramsey but need to redo the wiring once i find a diagram

Should I buy a m12000 for 300 bucks OBO

I could probably get it down to 250

It's rough though

The champions, harbor freight specials, and smittybuilts are all completely different winches.

- Champions are solid state motors. Solid states tend to wear out over time.

- Harbor freights are 4.5hp series wound motors, just like any other good winch.

- Smittys are 5.5hp series wound motors. 2 year no questions asked warranty too.

For the most part the series wounds all use the same motors just different gear reduction to get their weight rating, along with different size cable.

Seems like the receiver-mount cradle is worth $100 by itself, but I've never priced them.
