Brand New Suburban (in 1988)

I think you did pretty good, depending on the condition.

I paid $2900 and I believe it was worth every penny, not a spot of rust anywhere. The underside of mine is comperable to a car. I drive mine long distances as well.

I havent been on here much lately but I thought I need to share my experience with my suburban and my new BDS springs.

Fabbed up some roof rack mounts at a friends machine shop and finished getting the shark rack installed. Basically, we put 2 runners on with 8 mounting points total. Each mounting point was machined out of a solid piece of steel. We drilled and threaded holes part way through the steel and cut an insert for a rubber O-ring. Added some silicone as well, should be water tight and last for years to come. The rack is detachable and I will use the runners for other applications as well. The rack worked perfectly.

I was really pleased with the BDS springs. I had this truck VERY loaded down. The rack, 6 coolers, a few hundred beers, 5 guys, and tons of other gear and she was filled to the brim. We went about 50 miles down the beach over some rough stuff at high speeds and those springs took a beating. I really dont think the stock, worn out, saggy springs would have been able to take that much weight. I was really impressed with the ride quality.

Anyhow, I am terrible about taking pics but my buddy sent me a few so I thought i'd share.

save your self a lot of headache and problems down the road.

He's mostly beach riding for fishing trips, I think it's good with the 33s.

Could use some air shocks in the back to help carry that weight though.

bigmike: where's this beach?

I think he said this was in TX.

yes the that beach is in tx, known as the Padre Island National Seashore.

I do/will use it often for those fishing trips, but right now I have it parked at some land we hunt. Gonna be using it to go back in the brush, basically like a 4 wheeler, but I wanted to be able to haul people around out there. Although for awhile I was driving it all over west texas, weekly, it did great.

I know those 33's are too much for the 3.73's, but the price was good on them as they were basically new and cost me 250. I may keep my eyes out for some smaller tires or gears or even axles. It really isnt bad on the highway until I'm cruising through the hill country, then I just granny it up the hills and haul a** down em.
