Im nearly ready to assemble my clutch...the included throwout bearing is a plactic turd.

I know the brass ones are way more bulletproof but im not finding any...

Anyone know where to get one formthe sm465?

The other option is getting a non plastic throwout, centerforce looks good.

Luk did at one point supply those with their premium kits

Yes I have one

Yes I'm hoarding it
:D

not to nitpick but iirc, they are bronze, not brass.... other than that, I'm useless...

You're more than likely right. That's what I thought it would be but i saw a lot of reference to it bring brass. Not many people can tell the difference though as the color is similar.

Are we talking PILOT bushing or THROWOUT bearing?

As far as the bushings being bronze....I havent seen an actual bronze replacement one in a long time just brass.

You mean the "pilot" bushing, that goes in the crank, that is bronze..the older GM's I am familiar with use a 690-014 Dorman pilot bushing ,that is a bronze one...I've heard the needle bearing type aren't any good, despite looking like they would work better..they sieze up and squeal or fail completely..

A throwout bearing is what pushes on the pressure plate and goes on the fork,to disengage the clutch...are those now coming with plastic bearing housings on old applications too ?--I have seen the crappy plastic ones that are hydraulic and are the slave cylinder also,in one unit--many newer vehicles use,and they are problematic and fail without warning sometimes..

A friend had to put in 3 of them in a later Ford truck, the plastic hose came right off the bearing where it attaches,it is evidently "glued" in with some epoxy..he ended up using a genuine Ford one the third time,so far its holding--both aftermarket ones were junk, cheap brittle plastic and flimsy looking..

Sumitt says they have bronze throw out and bronze pilot bushings

I should read things.. I just ASSumed he was talking pilot...

Are they really making pilot bushings in plastic? I'm all sorts of confused. OP, clarify please.

Should be zero issue finding bronze pilot bushings and steel throwout bearings. If there is, I need to know so I can stock up!

IIRC, the 6.2L manual trans applications spec'd the pilot *bearing* and everything I've heard is that they are not as good as the bushing.

Ok I'm in dummy. It must be the pilot bearing... me smart durr!

The pilot is the one that can go bad and then you'll have roller bearings dancing around.

I found the brass pilot on summit!

The throw out that came with the luck is largely plastic. I'll have to look at it again closely today but I don't want anything to do with plastic.
