Break pedal down to the metal

Greetings,

I have changed to disk breaks on my 14 bolt axle and the break pedal is so soft that it goes down to the metal. It still breaks but it is nothing like when I had the drums. I have GM 14 bolt with the GM 2500 single piston calipers.

Should I change the break pump as well for something stronger? Please advise.

Peter

Search for some of the many threads here on disc brake conversions. Some suggest doing a different master cylinder or even hydroboost to help, but there a lot of other good things to try before deciding you need something like that. Keep in mind that the caliper piston requires a lot more fluid flow than the drum cylinder did, so all else being equal, you'll get more pedal travel now. Bleed, bleed, bleed, too.

You'll also find that people get wildly different results.

I put disc on the back and just the opposite. A little too much brake.
