Breaking in a new 350 engine...need advice

I just got a new 350 put into my '74. What is the best way to break in the engine? It's been primed and fired up, but not driven.

Has it been tuned yet; rather than just primed?

Yourself and another set of eyes, or foot, start it up and run for 20 minutes, between 1000 and 2000 rpm. The rpm will wander on its own so bring it down or up as needed. Check every thing while this is going on, try not to turn it off during that initial 20 minutes.
This is basically the instruction you get with a mild GM crate motor (ask me how I know).

better yet, your cam should have come with some sort of instructions on how the manufacturer recomends to break it in. if the engine was built by a shop, and you dont have the cam literature, call them and ask.

About the most important part for a flat tappet (hydraulic, or solid lifter old style) camshaft.
