Ok,
Small block 350. With about 300 miles on it from rebuild, RV can with flat tappet.

I haven't driven this beast in 3 months it fired right up but some smoke came of out the tail pipes, nothing insane and went away after a bit.

After the truck warmed I went for a drive, nothing crazy just getting the fluids moving. So I went to accelerate a bit harder trying to get on it, and I noticed some smoke coming into the cab. I got a bit worried and pulled into the fire station parking lot, it was the closet to me.
Parked it and popped the hood and I noticed oil on the passenger side plug wires and exhaust, there is my smoke.
I also noticed some oil on the valve cover right beneath the breather.

So I babied it home, no more smoke but when I parked it I noticed some more oil on the passenger side. So I pressed the throttle to see whats going on and after a hard pull a drop of oil fell from the breather.

Oil does not smell of gas at all and is clean.
I did however, recently change to one of those foam filter PCV valves which may be a cause of whats happening.
Valve covers have no baffles but the grommets have do, breather had one I made and the PCV has the one that came with the valve.

so what could be causing this? This only happened today with the first drive with that foam, slit grommet for the PCV..

when I pulled the grommet for the PCV smoke was coming out of the valve cover. Notching crazy but a trickle of smoke.

no misses no hesitation under hard or soft acceleration

You may have a rocker under the pass breather that is squriting/splashing oil into the filter.
At 300 miles rings may not be seated that well, and cuase some extra blow by.
Not having good baffles in valve covers is the reason I have stockers on my burb.
Thou don't need rocker clearance.
How did you break in the engine?
Any oil additives?

Engine was broken in by the builder "my vintageiron7512" from YouTube with Driven or Brad Penn high zinc oil. he lives in Arizona and was at one point selling and rebuilding engines out here.
Broken in with proper high zinc oil, and it had high zinc presently as well, I think 5w-20
i cut two slits in the grommet to create a baffle and after pulling the PCV grommet I noticed the baffle wasn't cut all the way and only had a tiny pin-prick to let fumes through. I opened that up and put a new breather on the engine from the 69'c10..

custom baffle on breather
And baffle on PCV

Put a stock air cleaner back on it with a breather inside the air cleaner housing.

How much oil is in the breather?
If you pull the pcv out of driver side and run engine how much smoke do you see, or any liquid oil, lite revs to 2kish

Yeah extending the breather tube might do the trick, if there isn't blow by.

After you check the blow by.
Go for drive find a nice abandoned street. Roll up 50 mph, off throttle to 20mph, roll up to 50mph. Do this @ 12x, 20 to 50. This will help seat the rings, won't hurt anything if they are already seated.

The foam in it doesnt appear saturated. I have on a cloth a see how much of may drips out of it.

when the engine was running I pulled the PCV and didn't notice smoke or oil shooting up. After I shut it off and went back to check that grommet baffle I saw some. But this was the first time on start up any smoke came out of the tail pipes. But it did sit for 3 months and this was the first start/run

i switched the breather and cleared out that baffle on the PCV so hopefully that clears it up. If not I'll remove the foam in the PCV grommet and try again.

I did that when I first brought the truck home from install of the engine. I guess it won't hurt to do it again.

if you guys have a link to stock breather set with air cleaner I'll check it out. I looked and didn't see.

i see only breather tube.. but do not see the "stock" air cleaner it work with. I know aftermarket have a provision you can cut out but...

I saw that and I see the breather tube online as well, but not the air cleaner itself.

Junk yard.

I have a bunch of them, but you are a ways off. There has to be someone local who would give you one.

Martin

If you are going that route, just buy the breather, and install it in what you currently have.

I wish... I'm too busy at the moment to go hunting a junk yard.
so I just cut out where needed on the air filter bottom screw this in, attach tube to a into the valve cover

So my parts lists?
mr gasket piece for bottom of air cleaner, vent tube for valve cover and hose to connect both?
