Broke Mag H1 insert I am an idiot (now with carnage pics)

I got lazy and after spending way too much time with a sawzall and my flapdisc cutting the first insert, I figured I would use the turret lathe at work to cut the other ones. Well I learned that the beadlock does not have sufficient strength radially to hold up to the machining. I have pics and will post them when I get home.

The machine tried to throw it like a frisbee and we had no indication of a problem until the thing let go. It was cutting like butter.

Since I am OCD and did not want mixed and matched beadlock inserts I scrapped the other ones and I am in the market for a new set. I am looking at the stazworks HMPE ones but I know there are some factory rubber ones in the classifieds. Which ones should I go with. Not limited to just these two but I did not want to list everyone that makes them. Also do not even mention USA6XSUX I wont use them.

There is a guy on Pirate that make metal ones, forget his name but he has a good rep if I remember right. I seem to remember another company besides usa6x6 and stazworks that sells pvc inserts, think I heard about them on here too. I have the usa6x6 ones and they work fine but it took him 3 months to get them to me after he charged my card.

I'm guessing from looking at your equipment that there is a band saw nearby? I did five wheels worth in 25 minutes on a band saw.

Vertical band saw or plasma cutter. Yes, they have been done with a plas. Might want to have a class D extinguisher on hand just in case though.

Not my shop per se. It is the shop at work. Also with cutting the runflat off there was not real way to clamp it. The picture also makes it look like it was spinning way faster than it was.

It was going great until about half way through and it hung up and busted the runflat. Hind sight being what it is I probably should not have been lazy.

As for the bandsaw I tried that and our cheap as government supply guys wont buy us any blades for it. I tried for 20 min with the blade in it and only cut 3 ribs.

Kert and Brian thanks for the offer but I scrapped em. I am at the point where I get frustrated easily with just about anything to do with my rig.

I am gonna buy some aftermarket ones or maybe some rubber ones out of the classifieds. That was the other part of this post who would you (CK5 Gang) recommend for aftermarket inserts.

This, I guess, is also a FYI for anyone else who wants to cut them down this way. DO NOT attempt to hold them down the way I did.

There was a guy on tennessee offroad boards that made his outta old 3/8 or 1/2" conveyor belt. Cut it the right width on a band saw and then bolted a metal piece to the end to complete the circle. An additional air hold allowed air flow and he was very happy with them.

God I love lazy people.

Even though the metal scrap bins are overflowing and need to be emptied, the guys in the shop did not take them out last night. I went and got the 3 good inserts out of the scrap bin and will be using them after all. Once I calmed down and realized it was stoopid of me to scrap all of them, I have decided to use the mag inserts.

I will be waiting for the band saw blades to be welded in the next few days before I continue on.
