I've been trying all day to remove this broken bolt. I was not aware of this issue until yesterday. I had the wife buy the truck in my absence and now this problem.

The previous owner just had the head gasket replaced and it appears that this bolt had been broken before then. There is cabon buildup around the base of the stud that is preventing PB Blaster form working its way down the threads.

I'm tempted to run the motor as is. I know there maybe an exhaust leak here. I've tried visegrips and propane heat and still it wont budge.

Could you clean/repair the threads enough to put two nuts on the bolt and lock them together and then try to back it out. Maybe scrape the carbon buildup off as good as possible and continue soaking with PB Blaster.

Zep45 it.

Let it soak for the day.

Zep45 it before you go to bed.

Zep45 it when you get up.

Rinse and repeat for a few days.

Forget double nutting it, although that works its not worth the risk of leaving yourself less material to pull it out by. What ya wanna do is get a good oversized nut that will thread on loose. Get it down til theres a few threads of the studs sticking above the nut, clean it all real good til its bare metal and weld the **** outta the nut onto the stud.

Let it cool real good because welding the stud will do the opposite of what you would want to do with a torch. Once its cool take a good mapp gas torch and heat AROUND the stud. Once its hot grab your favorite impact gun and go to town on that mofo.

If you welded the nut on good enough that bitch should come right out.

heh, I did 24 of those today on a pair of hammered 502's, no sh*t...

screw PB and all that.... take a heavy hammer, i use a 3lb mini sledge, and smack it a few times, right on the end, like your trying to hammer it into the head.. this shocks/breaks the corrosion bond on the threads...

then a small pipe wrench will turn it out... not visegrips, a pipewrench...

This is what I would try first myself too.

Listen to this man he knows corrosion :D :D :D

My method is like the be all end all of a stuck bolt IMHO.

It's a great method, only if the guy does not have a welder like alot of people don't he's SOL. But it would be my next thing I would do since I do have a welder.

Lol I snapped a center bolt off into my driver side head installing a new intake manifold yesterday lol

fyi thats the intake side at a coolent port.

and just heat the whole thing up nice and hot and try and spin it out.

why some jack a$$ didnt remove it with the head off for the head gasket job is beond me.

I have the bad ass tool for removing broken bolts that still have threads left on them. Unfortunately the tool is far from cheap so your best method is to smack the bolt a few times while you add penetrant oil of some sort then use a little heat and a pair of vise grips and it should come out pretty easy.

Good news folks.
I came out of pocket $65.00 and a mobile welder came by and welded a nut onto the stud. He then put the flame to it and I then backed it out with some visegrips.

I just got done installing the intake:D.

Now I have to visit TBICHIPS to determine what thermostat I'm gonna need.

Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions:bow:

Right on man. Good to here. Those External Removers are as Bas A$$ as they get. I've used them for broken bolt to those PNTA secuity lug nuts.

I am NEVER lucky enough to have a bolt break off with enough material to attach a vice grip, mine are always flush and I end up having to weld a nut on and spinning it out that way, or I have to drill it out and tap hole.

Ah, I just had the joy of removing 7 broken bolts from the heads of a 6.0L gasser I've been working on for a local guy. All were broken flush with the face of the head, and I don't have any fancy extractor tools.

I just used my MIG welder and repeatedly spot welded the end of the busted bolts to extend them enough that I could just slip a nut over them then weld the stud to the nut. I was able to remove all the bolts with my impact gun after doing so
