Broken Exhaust bolt

Not your usual broken bolt, thoughIMG_1030.JPG IMG_1036.JPG . This is a new stud in a new manifold. Both made in China. I just want to know before I send this all back across the country, did I cause this? I'm kind of pissed, but before I do get mad at someone else, I need to make sure it's not my fault. Any way putting a stud in should crack the cast iron like this? This is with a open end wrench and a couple of nuts on the stud. I was under the impression the threads on this should be the same all the way to the stop, meaning this is a casting problem or a metal problem. Am I right?
 
Unless you crashed the taper above the thread into the cast, it’s just crappy parts or out of spec

Consider on the original 40 year old cast iron, this isn’t usually a problem. Due to the difference in metallurgy and QC

It's stuff like that that made it worth the cost to have 30+ year old manifolds that have been heat cycled thousands of times to be seasoned to be flattened out by the local cylinder head shop. I trust original GM manifolds that are cleaned up over chinesium replacements any day of the week.
 
Funny, my neighbor couldn't believe I was putting the old one back on the driver's side even though I had a new one sitting right there. I told him I thought the 40 year old GM manifold was better than the new one, especially in light of the crack on the passenger's manifold. Sad, but true. I'll take the $12 loss and return the new one.
