broken hood cable. how to i open hood?

86 blazer. my hood cable broke. how do i open hood? thanks

You cut the hood off. :D

Seriously, I think you can get to the latch area with the grill removed and then possibly find a way to release the hood latch.

yup grill is off. latch area is all sealed off, still looking for that easy solution. any suggestions?

take the inter fender off I believe it the only way if you can’t get a coat hanger to it through the grill. . Depends on your year grill. Once you get it open… put a little backup cable on the little latch and run it straight down the core support.. by doing this you will have a backup. Those hood release cables (non OEM especially ) are complete junk.

You can also try to bump the hood

on my 88 I cut it by the inner fender from underneath, then pried the corner of the hood up and pulled the cable out the front. then its just a matter of stripping the outer sleeve back and getting ahold on the cable to pull it. popped right open

The two bolts holding the release face the front. A 1/2" deepwell socket on an extension between the hood and the core support should get em out and allow the hood to open.

This happened to me once. I pried the hood just enough to get a 1/2 inch socket in there to remove the two bolts holding the latch. Then open it up hope this help's.

Happened to me, but I had a short that burnt through th cable. Try not being able to open the hood with smoke pouring out from under it.

Got it open by pure panic strength lol

Dynamite.

Is it bad that instead of thinking of explosives I thought of a stereotypical 70s soul brotha saying "Dynomite!"

I watched dirty harry last night lol. "I GOTS TA KNOW!"

I have to admit I would hate to run into this problem!
I think when I put the burban back together I might add an electric door latch to it instead of the pull handle and add a hidden manual release.

Just install a little cable backup - I used thin picture frame type cable. Tie it to the latch and run the cable down the support and tie it off somewhere. If the regular cable snaps.. you can reach up under the bumper and pull the backup.

It only had to happen to me once before I learned that I better install a backup .... getting the hood back open after the cable snaps can be a royal pain in the ass.
