I have a 1988 K5 and the drivers rear shock mount broke again. Does anyone know if these top brackets still available or if there is an aftermarket fix other than in-boarding them. Thanks in advance.

Depending on how much room you have between your floorpan and frame rail, you could bolt on a set of F-250 shock mounts, thats what Im going to do. There is a writeup on the homepage about this, its either under Technical or Product testing, its on a frontend and uses longer shocks for a longtravel style setup, but it would work on the rear end as well.

Aftermarket fix? If the stock location works other than breaking, just weld the stock bracket to the frame, and once bolted in tight, weld the shock stud to the bracket. Just don't use thread deforming nuts to retain the shock.

Often I think what happens is that the hole for the shock stud starts to open up, which allows the shock to hammer the mount, which eventually leads to failure.

I welded mine in place and haven't had a problem in 10 years or so.
