Hey all,

A buddy of mine is looking at a '72 Blazer tonight.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4329372037.html

Being pre-square body, what are things he should be looking at on this rig? He's hoping for ways to talk down the price, but he's also wondering if that seems reasonable for that truck. Looks OK to me in the pics; seems as though someone did things right possibly.

Thanks,
Clay

To me that seems reasonable. Just a tad higher than what I paid, but has upgraded axles and a lift. Also the exhaust is what I want (50 series).

Knowing what I know now, I would want to look closely at the rust in the windshield frame (look at the top of it from inside the cab), also ask if they have repaired the other usual spots, rockers (inner and outer), b pillar, etc. See any rust bubbles under the paint? How's the bed look in the back? Rust holes towards the back edge are pretty common. Is all the hardware there to keep the hardtop on?

Is that a dent in the driver door or just a reflection? What does new 454 mean? Should be pretty clean for recently being installed.

What does your buddy want to do with it?

It must have been a California truck for some time to still be running blue plates.

Those are my thoughts.

Hey Jacob,

Thanks for the thoughts :) man I wish I could have joined you guys and taken a look at your ride.

Looks like that is indeed a dent in the door. My buddy's goal is to use it for camping, hauling his dogs, things like that. He's super excited to look at it, so we took out my Suburban for lunch today.

make sure you crawl under and spy the rocker boxes...

Take a fridge magnet to check for bondo.
Is that a crack in the back hatch next to the right hinge?
And it's missing the cigarette lighter, can probably bargain a few bucks off for that. :D

Looks like at this point he's getting it. There is a bit of rust on the floor, and you can see some on the rockers. He says it rides "rough", but then again the ride in my Suburban is probably influencing that opinion, as my Suburban rides pretty well. Needs paint and the interior needs work; no carpet, or anything on the floor. I haven't seen the seats yet.

But, he likes it, and his fiancee likes it. I think that's the key right there. If they both like it, it may just be worth getting and fixing up.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Picked it up this afternoon.. It's a little rough in some areas, but the drivetrain is solid and most everything else is pretty solid.. Little surface rust on the hood, and some rust on the rockers.. Top needs a little help. Overall I think it was worth it..

Awesome! Welcome to the first gen sickness. Looked like it had some good upgrades. I went soft top, got tired of the water getting in on the hard top and stuffiness when it was warm out. Once I took the top off, it never made it back on. It has now sat in my driveway for almost two years.

Welcome to CK5 dude! :)

We need to get some pics up here for you.

We went for a spin around the block yesterday; I forgot about the Detroit and it took me a moment to figure out what that sound was LOL. I think it's pretty cool and am looking forward to working on it with him ;)

Welcome to CK5 bud! Congrats on the buy. Can't wait to see some pics. The first gens are so cool. In my opinion one of the best looking trucks ever built.
