Came across a running 455 buick for $500, thinking of picking this up for a direct swap instead of rebuilding my engine. Anyways the seller actually has a 1974,75,76 buick 455. Anyone have any idea which yea is more powerful and how powerful are they stock? What do I need to put in my 84 K5 with an sm465/205. Thanks

The 74 would be the most power, 75 is when they really detuned them and 76 was no better.
A buick 455 is actually a decent torque motor, I had one that I was trying to sell for a while for as low as $150 then I ended up parting it and made about $400.:D
I thought when I got it that it would fit where my olds 455 did but then found out the exhaust manifolds are different (boat with wet exhaust ) so I got rid of it.
I don't remember numbers but I could find them or you can do what I did, google buick forums and you will find the forum I found and go there they had plenty of info and were very willing to share like here.
And to put it on your 465/205, you could get the BOP adapter plate or maybe there was a bellhousing for the 465 to BOP, I don't know if the 350 diesel was offered with a 465 or only with th400.

Pretty decent power...gobs of low end torque, and can be built to make a ton of power (just more spendy than a small block chev)

Fitment into your K5. You're gonna have motor mount issues, and you'll need some sort of adaptor plate to mount the engine to the bellhousing. The 455 has a BOP bellhousing pattern, and your tranny is the Chev pattern. You'll need a new flywheel for the 455, plus clutch etc etc. Big block rad should work fine.
