Build date from a VIN??? HELP!!!!!

Just so everyone knows, after 10 years GM starts pulling VINs from their mainframe. If your truck or car is a 96 or older, there's a good chance you may run into the same issues as I have if you're trying to get info based on a VIN.

Okay, here's the update. It's all good.

The Carfax report I got show the original registration date being in June 1989. Obviously the truck was built at least a few months before then. I took the report to the mechanic and because it shows an actual Arizona title number, he's willing to accept the Carfax as evidence it was built prior to December 1st, 1989. :woot:

On a side note, I tracked down GM's Vintage Department, and for a $30 fee they can go through their archives and provide me with the actual build date. I don't need it now(unless for some reason the Alberta gov't decides a Carfax isn't sufficient), but if any of you want to write this number down, they can be contacted at 905-440-7689.

Thank God all this crap is finally dealt with, and not a minute too soon.:doah:

WOW just got off phone and they even could tell me the date mine was built!! My retso pack is on the way and only took one call. Nice find 73K5 great job man :))

lol come on man theres ways around these things

I'm not sure what you're referring to. I for one am not going to test the system and risk getting focked over in the process. In case you didn't know, the Gov't holds all the cards in this situation.

Secondly, I do things the right way the first time. That's just who I am.

Canmore Hey just the guy we have been looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell us brother how the Rust Bullett Held up many people want a follow up report on the product!!!
Please and thank you!

the cutoff is actually 1990, things dont really start getting shady until 1992. i worked in a dealership parts dept for 2 years, and am still good friends with the manager.

What type of services does GM's Vintage Department offer? Just info or parts too?

Good info Paul. I have a build placard on my door, but I am interested in total numbers produced of the V3500's
