I want to be the guy on the trail that pulls other guys out. Mine platform is a vanilla 6.2L non-turbo diesel. I want it to be street drivable but still go on the trails for crawling. However I'd like to be a tow monster with good welds and anchors for wenching others if needed. I dont want to be the guy that rips his bumper/front axls, etc off from trying to wench up a Samauri. Not expecting it to be a deuce and a half but want to make it pretty stout without spending too much.

With that said what would you guys recommend to do to beef this bad boy up for those roles without too much coin?

Big winch/winches, good recovery kit with snatch blocks, straps, shovel, jacks etc.

Solid drivetrain, and solid welds.

Onboard welder is always nice to have. Good tools without adding too much weight, onboard air, tire plug kit.

I've recovered quite a few rigs with my little S-10 and dozens of rigs (even a quad and a horse) with my Blazer.

It doesn't take much special, good straps/winch/recovery points and more traction than the guy that's stuck has.

Get an Offroad Design front and rear bumper, install a Warn M12000 winch, and make sure you have some heavy duty D rings, straps, and snatch blocks.

Extra shackle mounts that are solidly attached right to your bumper/frame to go w/ the front winch. Sometimes you need to add snatch blocks to double or triple the line pull or to just get at a better pull angle.

A good rear hitch w/ a hitch mounted shackle bracket works well for pulls from the rear. Hard pulls should always be done from the rear, never from the front and backing up.

The heaviest tow straps you can find (30,000+ lbs) w/ leather protective covers around the loops, one 25'-30' and another 50"+. Some times you need the length to get on solid ground for a good tug. I think Warn's premium 3" straps are a minimum. Keep them clean, grit can cut right through them when they're under strain.

I have their premium snatch block and it's plenty for most situations. Multi-block pulls w/ bigger winches on bigger trucks would require the HD blocks.

Good leather gloves.

A weight to put over your winch line to protect against it snapping back. I prefer the winch saver. It's always on the line ready to use and it snugs into the hook when the line is in to keep the hook from rattling or being stolen.

Better yet, ditch the steel cable and use winch rope. No weight needed and no snapback.

First you have to make your rig so that it doesn't get stuck easily.
