What’s up guys so I’ve got an 87 k5 I’ve spawned the rear to a 14 bolt . Now I’m swapping a Dana 60 to the front I’m planning on doing crossover high steer conversion not sure if I’m gonna do hydro assist maybe in the future . But I want to get the most out of my springs articulation wise . I have a 4in rough country lift kit installed but it’s stif as hell . Also gonna be going with the abomb front bumper it’s 4-5 weeks out so I’ve got time to do this right . Thanks !

Just do crossover and make a super beefy tie rod. Makes hydro assist easier.

Are you keeping the rough country springs.

For virtually any spring the correct length shock is a must. The lift companies do not give you a shock that is long enough.

Extended shock mounts are worth it.

I have in the past moved the upper shackle hanger on the front forward to help a bit with articulation. But not sure with those springs

if your keeping the rough country springs then I would get a set of ORD rear shackles and thier FUSH kit. If your getting new front springs then I would get a set of springs from ORD along with the shackles and FUSH kit. did you get the B52 kit with the A-bomb?

No I haven’t ordered the bumper yet . I’ll look at Ord springs . But should I stay with the rough country springs?

Coil overs then you will be set.
but to be serious i would get a set of custom springs from ord, thats what i did on buddies k5, ride is amazing compared to rough country.
Where are you in california ?
I’m in the Bay Area ! I’ll look into it I’m gonna hold off on coil overs.

if you like a empty dump truck ride keep them .

also as said crossover only and a beefy tie rod for stock location . ord / ruffstuff / few others offer kits for this .

If you can afford em the ORD springs are as good as leaf springs get. But you need to pair them with correct length good shocks. Think Bilstein as the absolute minimum. You will need extended shock mounts with ORD springs.

I have 4" lift Pro Comp springs and they seem to ride pretty nice. I've heard good things about BDS springs also.

Why are you guys against the high steer ? Also if I don’t go high steer will I still need the 2wd steering box ?

Highsteer tends to create more problems than it solves...

Crossover is extremely worth it, and requires a 2wd box, but crossover + highsteer can lead to interference between the draglink and tierod if you move the axle forward, highsteer stresses the knuckles pretty hard under anything but normal driving, and highsteer complicates hydro assist

As Justin V said, hi steer creates much more stress on the upper part of the steering knuckle. If that breaks, it's one hell of a vehicle recovery to get you back home.

What size tires are you running? I know with my 42s on my trail rig, crossover without hydro assist sucked. I wish I did assist right from the start

On the subject of high steer, I'll add that I pieced together my set up and it's been a little bit of a PITA to get it "right".

I originally had an NWF crossover kit (with an ORD 1.5 tie rod) that worked fine but I came across a pair of steering arms (only) I'd wanted for a long time so I bought them. I swapped my existing single crossover arm for the matching pair and added the high steer tie rod. Once installed I had a couple of issues, first the drag link and tie rod would hit one another during a full right turn, this was easily fixed by turning the bent drag link 90° so the bend moved the 2 bars apart. Next was the tie rod hitting the passenger side u-bolt plate at a full right turn. I worked most of this out with trimming / grinding / hardware and fixed 90% of the interference but it does still barely touch right at the steering stop.

In the end, it works but at this point I would rather have bought a kit for the turn key aspect.

Nobody has asked yet, what are you going to be using the truck for?

Fire roads, extreme crawling, daily driver, desert running, expedition?

Wade, keep your rational common sense to yourself..we are all about giving advice up in here

Move your front shackle hanger forward some. This helped get alot of down travel with my springs. I used and prefer the DIY4X shackle hanger. Toss on a slightly longer than stock shackle and not alot with change with how it drives but it will cycle way differently.

Crossover is required with this much travel. The drag link on stock style steering will hyper extend and cause trouble you probably don't want.

These are 4" procomp springs and the a bomb. Plenty of travel and drives normal as hell.

If you use a custom spring, then it is long enough to keep the shackle hanger in the stock location. And ORD puts thinner leaves in for a soft ride.

I just want to build a good all around truck!

I just want to build a good all around truck and not go back and forth putting it together taking it apart just want it to be able to go where I want when I want .
