I like the idea, maybe we could sticky a thread in each subforum that guys could post there links to there build threads in the build thread forum??

Hmmm  might not be a bad idea.

All the build threads in one spot would be sweet :pimp:

Will my Chevy truck to Toyota station wagon build thread be be allowed in there :D ?

Chris

Of course! What ever build you want to show off.

If you're going to do it, I think something that would really be helpful is some sort of discipline for the "Subject" line for each thread to make it easier to find relevant builds.

Maybe require that the year and model always be first part of the Subject, followed by the "nickname" of the build, if desired: (ie.)

'77 K5 - The Iron Maiden Build
'82 K5 - The Diesel Warrior Build
'87 K5 - What's Ryoken Up To Build
'72 K5 - Project POR - Triplesticks, etc
'72 K5 - The "Might As Well" thread

It might just be a helpful way to organize the lists and allow people to find builds that are similar to their own vehicle. Maybe automatically add "Tags" to each build so that searches will quickly isolate the specific year/model within the forum??

:usaflag:

Good idea!

If we did this, would we be required to do build threads in that forum (it would be moved there) or would we have a choice?

-Ben

Nope, you could still put your build threads in the appropriate forum if you like, this is simply another option.

That's a good point Ben.

I know that I'd be really irritated if my build thread ended up derailed with a bunch of unrelated discussions or by some newbs who didn't care about clogging it up with a bunch of off-topic questions.

That could be controlled better by making it a "members only" area, but having a members only area as a sub-category off one of the only free-to-everyone forums might not be well-received.

:usaflag:

Good points, you could still keep your build thread in the appropriate generation/make/model forum to keep the noise down.

Hm. Have you looked at 'build threads' in the garage over the years? I'd say 'build-threads' in the garage are maybe 10% tech, and 90% of a melange of nitwit posts like "...subscribed..." or "...cool, dude...". If one happens to search for specific tech, and a 'build thread' comes up - one can pretty much forget finding anything useful. Very few of these threads are a useful tech resource, the majority might as well be in the Lounge.

I sometimes view them more as show and tell, but they do give people ideas.

Wow, I just dropped a reply bomb on this thread! lol

If I didn't know better, I'd say you were trying to pad your post count!!!:D

I saw your answer above about my concern, so I'm 'in' for the build thread sub form. (Even though I may do mine in the 73-91 forum)

"Under the Knife" sounds good to me to.

yup, as much as i like under the knife, i think built not bought is a bit better.. and more fitting....

were is our new poll for sub forum names to pic from ?

i think this has worked super so far. why not let us pic the name also ?

but your site not mine . so you rule with iron fist . :eek1:

The best name would clearly be Howdiyduty's build and some others as well

Yeah, Built not bought seems like a lot better choice than under the knife

I'm digging the "Built Not Bought" title...

For what it's worth, the very first post I made on CK5 was starting my Blazer build thread in "The Garage"... There's a little bit of chatter in my thread, but that's part of the point... Kinda like hanging out in the garage drinking a beer with friends and talking shop about your rig...

I'm more than happy with the input that other members have posted in my thread... There's been more than a few that have had questions and felt at ease asking... And answering those to clear up a concern is tech in many ways...

I've lurked around the entire site, but I like hanging out in the garage...

I just hope my bus build is included in the "Built Not Bought" sub-forum...:D

exactly my thoughts too... mine gets a little off-topic bs on occasion, mostly started by me.... :doah::wink1:

but hopefully some of my ideas have been interesting and innovative enough to be considered "tech" and make up for the bs'ing.... i love discussing my truck and build ideas, pro's and con's...
