So i finally picked up a 14 bolt and i plan on building it before I throw it under my blazer. Should I get all the parts first and then do it all at once or get certain things first and add to it as I go? I dont plan on putting it under the blazer until next year anyway. So what would you guys do?

My plans are pretty much what everyone else does: disc brakes, detroit, 4.88, 1410 pinion yoke w/u bolts, diy4x dif cover, pinion guard.

Start getting parts now. If its sitting in the garage on jack stands, the disc brake swap should be easy to do. Do you have 4.88s in the front now? You could do the disc swap now, and. All the rest could be done at the same time. If its not going in until next year, you could spend $20.00 a week for a couple months to do the disc swap. And the rest of the time, get the rest of the parts. Good luck!

Get the diy4x disc brackets!!!!

Do it all at once, even fill it up in the garage. Made mine go alo smoother it seemed. Took me a year to build it too.

If you can work on gears, change a ring and pinion, do it all at once. If not, you could do the brakes, then send it to have the ring and pinion done.

i dont have 4.88s now, but i am going to be picking up a dana 60 this october and ill be building that as well. so both will be getting built up over the next year or so. is it worth doing the 1410 yoke on the 14 bolt? or stick with 1350? i can get the yoke, u bolts and a d-shaft from tom woods for $570

1350 should be plently strong enough. The best upgrade to strength would be to get rid of the strap style yoke and get a u bolt style yoke on the 14 bolt, straps are terrible. I would make sure you do atleast that before you regear the 14 bolt, that way everything will be setup and you wont have to worry about dealing with the crush sleeve later down the road. However, taking all this into consideration (new d shaft and yokes anyways) and your are hell bent on more strength the 1410 wont hurt. Everything setup correctly you wont have trouble with the 1350 joints.

I know that probably doesnt help much but all I saying if your spending the money anyways on those parts going to the 1410 is not that much more. I will say though that 1350 on the front will definintely be more than enough.

Yep definitely will be going to u bolts. I doubt I will need the strength that the 1410 would give. Im hoping that I can get a matching gear front even if its still only 1/2 or 3/4 ton. That would I could just do the discs on the back and rock it like that for winter and then do all the upgrades. But it would be nice to not have to work on them under the blazer too. :doah: Ill just build it and wait.

I just really dont want to put the money into re gearing my 10 bolts if it could be better spent on upgrading now.
