I'm in a welding class, and my teacher and I are going to build a front bumper for my 82 K5. Right now i dont have the K5 and its at my Grandparents house and I asked my grandfather to take a width measurement, he gave me a measurement of 74" is this accurate or not? Thanks for your time.

I really like the Pre-Runner style front bumpers with a winch mount. I've seen some really trick ones with the winch mounted behind the bumper hidding it.

Thats what i am going to build for the front, its going to have 2" .120 DOM Tubing for the hole thing. Hopefully it will look like the bumper that DP_90K5 first had on his.

One thing I can't live without is the receiver hitch up front..... Very usefull!

thats a cool idea that i never thought of, i might have to thing of a way to incorperate one into the design. Also is 74 inches a good measurement for the width of the hole thing? thanks

Yes a 225 will work, and work well. .120 wall can be done all day with a 110V too (I have one and it's duty cycle makes everything an all day project). 74" sounds right. I will measure mine when I get out in the shop later.

74 seems very narrow to me, a stock bumper is 79" across at the widest. If you want to wrap around at all, that is only 1.5" wider than where the fenders bulge.

That's the idea. Wide enough to protect the sheetmetal but not too wide.

Here's mine:
