Building front bumper

OK Im thinking of trying to build a front bumper for my 73 K20. Just something I can mount a winch to and add a couple tow hooks and a pair of lights. Nothing too extravegant, just able to hold up to winching and unforseen encounters with immovable objects. What kind of material should I use, and how much should I plan on spending?? I have a chop saw, grinder welder, a hydraulic and "man-power" bender. Just need to educate myself properlly...

this is what i am making right now, its not finished yet but its in progress, it will also have a prerunner type stinger and tubes that connect the stinger from the sides. check it out.http://coloradok5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148184 there are more pics father down in the post too.
