Building wheel blocks?

I even have a hard time trusting cinder blocks in walls on buildings!..after helping a guy take an old 2 car garage down made of cinder block construction and seeing how easily they were to dislodge or break in the process, its amazing the buildings stay up as long as they do!..

His garage had settled, and large cracks ran from one end of the walls to the other, following the mortar joints, like "steps"..it was like that for years,he tried using mortar to bond the cracks up but it cracked again, and he feared the walls would come down,so he decided to raze it and dig a new poured concrete foundation and build a wood framed garage..

I can see putting wood in between the blocks may prevent the load from being concentrated on one spot and causing it to fail, but I'd still not feel comfortable using masonary products for that...wood,steel,yes...not cement..cinder blocks might be ok for a static load like a building or trailer, where no one is going to be under them, but they scare me when it comes to holding up vehicles..

We used 4x4 posts at the junkyard often to hold up a car we had tilted up in its side with the loader (along with leaving the loader forks up against the car just in case one broke or slipped)--I was scared to get under a car supported by the posts alone, but it is pretty amazing how strong a fairly small post is and how much weight it can bear without failing..
