I've been doing some searching on buying a bolt set up and I've across what I consider a good deal. Granted, these are just starter kits and intended to be added onto.

This appears to be one of the better prices I've found.

Anyone have something better? I'm okay with the plastic bins. This is just for my little garage so it doesn't need to be industrial strength bins or anything.

Ironically, I just did a search on that company and they get absolutely shit reviews.

Looks too good to be true.
Reviews show plenty of folks placing orders only to find out things are backordered after their credit cards get hit. That and failure to answer the phone or respond to emails.

The price aint as nice but I have always had great experiences with mcmaster carr and bolt depot. I at least trust that i'll get what I paid for in a timely manner and I trust the grading is accurate to the actual product.

I've had too many bad experiences with screws and bolts that are weaker than wadded up tin foil. Why risk it?

Personally, I don't think I'd want to invest in a "kit". It seems like there'd be a high probability you'd get a combination of a lot of stuff you might never use and a just few that you're always running out of. Can you pick the sizes included in kits like this? What about bolt grades, do you order all grade 8? Does that run up the advertised price?

I'd also think the freight cost of the initial set bin would be high.

Just start saving all the extra bolts from stuff that has been replaced, rebuilt, scrapped, etc., plus the leftovers from when you buy whole boxes or bolts by the pound at Tractor Supply. Fast forward 20 years and you have this:

I'm not a big fan of a big collection.... SAE , Metric.... Way too many types to have a decent assortment of. Might have a different attitude if no suppliers were near by.

Big odd stuff has to be ordered out anyway

Ive got pretty lucky going to a local hardware distributor…go in for a couple odd sized bolts and have them say is that all you needed…yep….have a nice day!
I keep 1/4 through 1/2 grade 8 in about 8 different lengths as well as flat and lock washers, nuts and nyloc nuts from tractor supply on hand. Sure is nice to have them in the shop!

Same here. I even took the time to sort out all my hardware by item type.

The sorting seems like a huge time sink, but if you just have random drawers or buckets of fasteners, you can waste an hour on every project just to finally decide "I don't have that". Almost better to skip the buckets and go straight to the hardware store, so why have them?

Since I have all my junk hardware sorted out it does not take too much time to figure out if I have what I need or not.

Luckily for me I have a hardware store called McFadden-Dales just the other side of the fence from my shop. They have every thing you could ever want in hardware. I keep 1/4" to 1/2" hardware myself. I find that I use 3/8" more than any other size hardware.

I miss McFadden-Dale. I used to just wander around to see what I never new was available.
