Finally found a 400/203 combo, and want to rebuild the 400 before I do the doubler and install it in the truck. Want to do a good rebuild on it, and figured now is the time to beef up any parts. What are some parts that need upgrading, or should be upgraded?? Want it to hold up to anything I put threw it.....

i built mine to go in frt of a 547 caddy stroker. i put in a full manuel/reverse vavle body, 34 element sprag, 4l80e drum to hold more clutches, deep sump alum pan, & modded frt pump. used a rebuild kit w/ high perf. clutches & band. i bought all my parts hee locally from BTE racing. they even built my converter in house as a custom job. very happy w/ there service.

Wow, sounds like a killer tranny, but didn't want to spend that much!!! Guess maybe a good solid rebuild with shift kit might be sufficient...

I have one in my Vette, that runs about 440hp, I rebuilt it with a JW Performance rebuild kit, and put in a Shift Kit. Works awesome, and has about 40 passes on it, and has great hard shifts. Total cost of less than 300 bucks.

:D i hear u, i only saw the part were u said u wanted it to hold up to anything. i built mine to survive behind a healthy 547 ci, caddy stroker.

Haven't built mine yet but the research that I have done says the sprag in the 400 is weak and will lose 2nd and possibly reverse when put through the ringer. I will also be adding a Transco shift kit.

I just rebuilt mine. Added a transgo shift kit and was going to upgrade to the 34 element sprag but there was already one in it. New clutches and seals. Works great now. Transgo kit was real nice, easy to follow instructions, easy to install.
