Got new doors headers and dynomaxs and lariat leather seats in my '81. I was stoked. 2 days later tranny was toast. Went to my friends parts yard ripped another one out. Should have known when I took the NP205 off of it. Wasn't thinkin. Brought her home bolted her in slid my little old aluminum 208 under the truck and 'OH WHAT THE F*^K' hit quicker then crap. 'output shaft too short to hit bottom of the 208'

My old 350 was lock up new one aint, I might toss in a 203 or a 205 or I might look for a long shaft tranny, this is a daily driver and rarely sees the pit except for one or two saturday nights a month. It gets a little tow action here and there. What would you do? And whats the difference between the lock up, no lock up, pros, cons?

your old tranny was a 700r4 if it had lockup and u will lose mileage switching to the 350, but if your determined to go that route i would go with a 205. If you are going with a 700r4r i would stick with the 208 or go to a 241 if u got the cash, simply because u said u dont do much wheeling and since its a daily driver i would go 700r4 just for fuel mileage reasons

It was a TH350 a Th350c to be exact I believe. I do have a 700r4 brand new but this '81 has a lil 305 in it and dont hardly want to pull itself down the road as it is in high gear I fear the 700r4 willl throw it on its face. But my '85 started life with a 700r4 and a 305 and actually ran like hell I dont know what way to go.

i dont see an issue with a 305 and a 700r4, infact i would think that it would be better that way cus it has a lower first gear easier on the engine to get rolling i beleive and keep it in third cus that is still a 1:1 ratio like the th350 nobody says u got to drive around in overdrive. and i would get a nice big trans cooler to go with it as well.
