Well guys, i've finally decided to build a stout front bumper for my rig to match the rear one i finished last year. Pics to follow starting tomorrow. I already removed the factory bumper and the Warn Transformer bumper tonight but forgot to take pics before doing so. :doah: So i will snap a pic in the morning of my stock bumper sitting on the garage floor and then i'll start the build from there. I happened to find a recent pic of the front bumper still on my rig so here we go.

I've got the whole thing planned out in my head and some of the critical dimensions i have written down on paper. I'm going to build a cardboard template first to make sure i like the design and how it fits then i'll transfer the results to some steel. My first attack tomorrow is going to be designing the bumper brackets that will go THROUGH the bumper tube and stick out the front as an anchor point just like the rear bumper i built. I need to plan the shape of the bracket to allow the tube to be mounted where i want it to sit and also map out the bolt hole locations on the brackets. It looks like each bracket will use four 1/2" mounting bolts. When it's all said and done the bumper should sit about 4" closer than the Warn Transformer winch mount but maybe about 1" lower.
 
Sweet. I was gearing up for my bumper build, but got sidetracked playing with the FJ55 this weekend... gonna be a couple weeks till I'm serious about it again... maybe this will keep me in motion. I'll check for some progress when I can.
 
Ok, so i spent some time this morning mocking up a piece of tube so i could design a bracket and here's what i came up with for a bracket. This bracket will go completely through the tube of the bumper and the large hole at the end is the anchor point for a D shackle.

Awwww, Scott. Def subscribe to this one. Sounds like something I have been wanting to do for a long time. Please psot pics of how you do the cutting and anchoring of the frame mounting plate through the bumper on both sides as I will need some serious help on this when i do mine.
 
Will this new bumper be ready in the next couple weeks? Let me know if you need a hand or anything. I gotta put some miles on mine anyway.
 
I'm hoping to buy some steel tomorrow for the bumper brackets and hopefully get those made in the next day or so and then i can start on the tube itself. The main center section of the bumper will definately be done before blazerfest and hopefully the whole bumper.

Sounds like a front version of my rear bumper I got from 4x4 Iron before they went belly up. The frame brackets attach to the box and go through becoming anchor points as well and there is a receiver setup in the middle.

I like the license plate spot. I had to strap mine to the swing out tire carrier on the side. If they were still in business, I would have them add another swing out for some jerry cans on the opposite side. I have a guy that can do it for me local that did my cage though.

That license plate is mounted on a camaro flip up plate holder and behind the plate is my 7 pin tow connector and my OBA fitting.
 
Slick. One of the things I've been planning on doing for a while is adding one of those tow rig type jumper cable connections on the front bumper so I can just plug in jumper cables when needed instead of going through the whole clip and unclip procedure.

Yep, that's in the plan for my front bumper as well. :thumb:

I already have a VERY GOOD set of jumper cables (IIRC they are 600amp 25' 2 gauge cables with parrot jaw clamps)
 
Ok, here is some progress from last night that i forgot to post. I might have some more progress pics later if i feel energetic enough with this heat we're having.
