Why is 6x2 square tubing so dang hard to find? Never seen anyone here use 2x4 for bumper building. Channel is strong but I want to build a bumper off PWagon plans. I feel at times banging my head on the wall cause I do not want to spend $170 for 20 ft stick of 6x2 and have over 12 foot left taking valuable space up and rusting away. So anything I can do to over come this problem?

Metalsdepot has 6x2. Youll pay quite a bit for it though. It's a size that isnt commonly used structurally so it doesnt get much play. Its much cheaper to buy the whole stick and scrap or sell the rest. That stuff normally goes for $10 a foot so thats a pretty decent price.

dang it your going to force me to buy whole stick and then resell rest. Yeah most scrap yards where like wtf when I asked for 6x2 and all steel shops said very uncommon size. Guess I need to see before I purchase it if they will cut off at least 74" I need and then resell asap to make some $ back.

The trick would be to buy the stick. Actually make two or three bumpers, and sell the extras to cover the cost of materials. Free bumper for you.

very true and sharpens my skills but there are not alot of K5's in the area I live in here. I drive mine as much as I can and see maybe 1 every 2 to 3 weeks. Right now mine is parked since doing 8 lug swap in front on the 10 bolt and need to finish up my 14 bolt F/F and get it in this week. I want a bumper to carry the spare with 35 or 37's I pick cause spare eats up all the room inside the K5. But never know if I build one and drive around someone might stop me to ask where I got it the bumper from.

Just build the complete bumper sans mounts, that way you could mount them to ANY truck, just making the mounts to fit.

Saying build the bumper and mounts to fit any burb, truck or K5 and let them do there on mods like D rings and spare tires idea if they would like? Are all the 3 same in rear for width or do I keep mounts separate and let them tack/weld fully in place?

You could stack up 3 2 inch tubes,,,,,

What wall thickness of 2x6 are you looking for? Have you checked pricing at stockcarsteel? They usually have pretty good pricing, I've gotten a good bit of materials through them.
