how many different bumper mounts were there, just 73-80 & 81-87/91 subs? i found a stock set of the uprights and said ''cool i've been wanting a set of these!" the yard guy asked me what my yr model..i said 80-he said those wont fit your truck..i thought he try'n to not sale these-
he then said, "but i think i have a pair in my scrap pile from a 78-79 we stripped a month or so ago that will be ''right'' fit''..we got back to the shop he points 1 out at edge of his scrap pile and i dig around & find the other 1, he says i can have them, but haven't put them on yet..i want them to mount offroad lights to top of them, will it fit/clear the grille or will i have to use slimline lights..
he showed me a big difference in the profile where it meets the bumper..i thought they had always been the same bumper, espcecially the mounts, i hadn't paid very much attention to it, i knew some bumpers have turn signal some don't...but a good yard guy knowledge kept me from buying the wrong part-to giving me the right part for my truck...
i thought the bumper mounts had always been the same so 73 stamped bumper mount pieces would fit up to 87...like all the taillight lens have 73 cast on them b/c they hadn't ever changed any since the 73 body... but no...there are at least 2 diff bumper mounts..maybe more if bumpers w/ turn signals have different mount than the same yr model w/higher model trim and have turn signals in the grille & solid bumper
