Was trying to get my Blazer ready to attempt blazer bash since its the 50th anniversary this year, when my cousin says to me i cant even drive through michigan with it because of bumper height laws, so with more research i discover almost every state i'd have to drive through has pretty much the same law, so how much is this enforced?

It is in texas but its 54" for the headlights.
Not really alot of people breaking that one.

I'd also look into mudflap and tire coverage laws.

thanks another good 1 to look at, i know a few guys around here that have been nailed for no mudflaps..so far they haven't bothered me for them but then i dont have the lift the guys do that have been nailed...got thinking i have a set of 33s on rims that would drop me to a legal bumper height for travelling but that make for an even longer trip with my 538 gear ratio..lol talk about mph and mpg killer

I cant think of the name of it off the top of my head, but most states have transient laws. where if you're just driving through on the interstate you dont have to meet their safety standards. Even California has this, I once took my Cherokee on a trip through California. I had no doors, side mirrors, tires stuck out the side a bunch, ETC. But California law says to drive on their road but not be registered there you must have lights, windshield, and a single mirror.

May be worth looking up Michigan law on operating a vehicle registered in another state

I really wouldn't stress bumper height too much.... as long as your not driving driving like a complete moron I highly doubt you would make a cop want to pull out a tape measure.

You only have to be legal in your state.

We have open borders after all...

I have been issued and had to pay a mudflap ticket in Utah for a rig registered in Idaho.

First time ever happening to me

I haven't heard of any tickets in Michigan for bumper height. Maybe if your'e on 12" and 44's or something. You're not going to get hassled unless the truck looks like it's gonna fall apart or roll over or maybe super loud.

UHP goes after mud flaps and fender flare tickets like crazy, especially along I15. I got 5 tickets for no mud flaps/fender flares when I was stationed at Hill AFB and won in court every time since the truck was registered in Texas.

wait a minute... you can drive through a state without conforming to them... if your current in YOUR state, Canadian-land.....

the point is your passing through or there for the weekend and unless you move, then you have to conform.

Albeit, I would make things easier like have mud flaps, etc that are an easy to not be busted for so the cop is nice. if you get pulled over you can simply say... did what I could as I don't have too ... maybe ya catch a break.

they hope to ticket you and you not know and they make money as you have to go to court to fight it and most wont. easy money for them.

look into it is all I'm saying...

As others have stated, your state laws should govern, but to be honest, i would take whatever precaution needed to avoid contact with law enforcement. Also, Google state laws and print out the portion that includes the laws in question. Politely present them if needed.

agreed.. no harm in having a full printout of every state.. highlighting yours and politely showing IF you fall in spec.. then show them you are aware of theirs.. if stuff like mudflaps.. add them and remove at event, but lift, bumper, etc.. find the part that you have to comply if you move..

Being from Canadia you shouldn't be able to turn around without tripping over a snowmobile(or snow machine for some...). Cut some old track down to size for mud flaps, add a quick release and they pull double duty for traction mats.

I know that doesn't address the bumper height issue but gives them one less reason to pull you over.

In WA they also have specs on how high or low your license plate can be. I used to get pulled over all the time because my plate was behind my windshield in my S10 and they thought it was to high. I started carrying the print out and a tape measure. I would also like to stress the POLITELY part, you don't want to have to sit on the side of the road while they pull your truck apart because it smelled like marijuana...

Far as i know, your vehicle only has to be legal in the state its tagged for.

Those that have been ticketed otherwise could probably fight it but who has the time.
