I think my shock is bottoming out. The pic shows my setup. I have the big bumpstop already, and put a piece of steel tubing in there to drop it down a bit more. I know it's not 1:1, but the shock has about 4.75" of up travel, and 4.75" up from the spring plate goes to somewhere in the first opening in the stop. I guess I could imagine it compressing that much... I'm not getting air or anything.

I know I could drop this one further, but any other good suggestions that don't involve welding new attachment points to the frame or anything like that?

It involves welding but I made a little pad on top of my spring plate to raise the bottom instead of dropping the bumper down.

Put a zip tie around the shaft of the shock and then flex it out and drive it. That will show you how much of it’s travel you’re using

That's why I think I'm bottoming out. The zip tie went all the way down and was actually crushed a little.

Bolt a plate over the top of the U bolts, add more height as needed.

Mine is just a strip in the middle as a landing pad. Unobstructed access to the ubolts. Just like sbd has it's taller and just as easy to check the ubolts.

Yep, fix your membership.

You said you didn’t want to weld that’s why I suggested bolting a plate to the top of the u bolts.

Yup. There's probably no easy and perfect option, but I thought I'd ask.

The poly bumps don't get much love around here. You might not want to put too much effort into something based around them. The nice thing about the top plate idea is it keeps the U-bolts from tearing up the poly.

The alternative is $$ Fox style bumpstops? I'm open to ideas, just not really in the mood to do things like grind off my existing mount or weld onto my frame. If I could fab something externally and bolt it to the existing spot, that might be okay, if it was within my skill level (which is the metal equivalent of screwing together dimensional lumber).

Yeah, everything about the top plate idea is cool except that it makes it super painful to tighten U-bolts. Ever since my axle fell off, I've been checking my U-bolts after every off-road trip. I don't know if that paranoia will ever go away. Plus, I get an 1/8th turn every now and then.

4 simple holes in the top plate with a tube below going to the u bolt plate for extra support if you feel it's needed.

Also it looks like spd has his bolted to the u bolt plate with bolts on the sides of the u bolt plate so he can remove it to check u bolt torque .

Diy4x.com ( @cybrfire ) offers adjustable bump stops in both bolt on &a weld on versions.

Cool. Always quality stuff from diy4x. Looks to me like it involves grinding the rivets out and removing the existing thing, then bolting this in?

You can use Timbren air springs as bump stops. They are durable and available in many sizes. The hard part is knowing which PN you nees and getting an order placed for springs only (vs. a whole kit).

There are also the S-10 rear jounce bumpers that are super cheap. If you are never hitting the bump stops the poly may never crack, but it's good to think through the options before making more changes.

The Diy4x bump is offered in a bolt on version but I've never seen a pic of one.

This is the drawback to aftermarket U-bolt plates nobody seems to talk about. The stock plate can contact a bump stop without the nuts tearing it up.
